Charlie T.Photography

 

Charzette Torrence was born in Detroit, Michigan. She received her B.F.A in Fine Art Photography from the College for Creative Studies in 1993. She was selected as an Artist-in-Residence at the world-renowned Maine Photography Workshop in 1992, where she got a chance to study under photographers of the caliber of Arnold Newman, Maggie Stebbers, and Joyce Tenneson. One of her photos from her Essence of a Woman series was featured in the 1992 Art in America. Then, in 1994, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, located in New York City, purchased her series Single Working Parent. Since 2005 Charzette Torrence has headlined nine solo shows for her fifty-piece series the Just As We Are Project. These are images depicting gay people in a way completely unlike the way they are portrayed in the mainstream media. She has participated in over twenty-two gallery and museum exhibits. Charzette Torrence currently lives in New York City. She has been a W/MBE the city of New york, NY since 2006
